Braking resistors provide the ability to quickly stop the electric motor, in cases of braking using a frequency converter. If braking occurs quickly, the engine starts working in generator mode, and excess energy accumulates in the DC link of the frequency converter.

Network chokes are additional equipment to protect frequency converters from the effects of sudden voltage surges. At the same time, the device reduces the influence of harmonic distortion on the power grid. DC chokes represent inductance, in the form of electromagnetic coils with magnetic conductors. The principle of operation is based on the property of smoothing pulse voltages and current pulsations in the DC link of the frequency converter.

Electromagnetic compatibility filters or EMC filters are designed to limit the interference that is inevitably created during the operation of frequency converters.
